19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has won 21 victories at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to get a title is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

He came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a final set.

He rescued 4 early opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
