Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.
The ex-president was sentenced of planning a military coup in September and handed more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.
Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.
This included seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a invitation to a demonstration that could facilitate a chance to flee".
Judicial Records Show Flight Fears
In a filing authorising the detention, the judge said information from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's "intention to break the surveillance device to ensure success in his flight.
This, it said, would be assisted by the confusion caused by the gathering called by his offspring.
His child, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a legislator, called for a gathering of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.
His son wrote on social media on the previous day: "Are you going to fight for your country, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your settee? I call on you to battle with us."
He said the vigil would be so supporters could "pray for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."
Foreign Shelter Risks
Part of Justice Moraes's determination was the possibility of Bolsonaro's "relocation to diplomatic missions near the home, considering that the investigations revealed a background of arranging to seek refuge through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.
The court filing underscores that the American diplomatic mission in the federal district, the capital city, is positioned around 8 miles from Bolsonaro's home.

The scheme was prevented because it couldn't obtain the support of the military leaders. His successor was inaugurated without incident on 1 January 2023.
